Bad Moon Rising

Heck of a storm headed toward the NOC (and me) in the next hour or so. My generator is ready. I hope theirs is too.

Must be there already, the DW6000 on G4R is DOA. Posted via WISP.

I've been up and down the last little bit. Could weather cause the signal on my end to drop and cause a loss in connection? I go from mid 70s down to 7 with clear skies here.

Yes. You can be knocked out by weather between your dish and the satellite or between the NOC's dishes and the satellite. That's why we have the link at the top of the forum to the weather around the NOC.

so my signal strength is not necessarily a reading of signal from my dish to g3c, but a reading of connectivity between my dish and the NOC?

The reading is a "signal quality factor". It isn't a true reading of the strength of the signal but the quality of the signal. And yes, that quality can be adversely affected anywhere on the path between the NOC and you.

I'm out here too (on dial return) and was just trying to access the Maryland weather map.
My signal strength was down to 54 but even with that I couldn't even ping in SRS mode.

Hello all. So I guess this weather could be causing my problem with connecting to the registration server. I had to reformatt and I am still on the dial up. I keep getting this error message: Registration Server Detection Failed - WebSetup sent a request to the DIRECWAY registration server and it responded with an error. You can retry by clicking "Retry" or exit Websetup and try again at a later time. The WebSetup program can be started from the DIRECWAY folder on the Windows Start Menu. If the problem persists please contact Customer Service. If anyone knows where I can get the 3 files I need to finish websetup, I would really appreciate it.

Today I have experience the most weather related outages since my Direcway install 7-8 months ago. We have had very heavy rain storms, and I've had a total of 3 outages. Each lasting only a few minutes, and 5 minutes maximum.

about less than an hour ago, I noticed "timing" errors as my transmitters was not locked on. Then my recieve signal dropped to zero. I went to look for rain but only seen thick clouds.
I restarted the computer without powercycling the DW4000, and everything is back to normal and working great. With a normal signal of 84.

Beautiful weather here in Northern California, so I know that my outage was entirely due to the storm over the NOC. The times on the chart are pacific daylight time.

outlaw3864,
If you are trying to run Websetup under 4.0.3.9 (in your signature) it all has to happen over phone line.
Weather shouldn't affect that.
The server is probably busy...just keep trying.

If you are trying to get keys via satellite, the land line option is available...

Nobody can send you working .acm files. They are equipment-specific and have to be downloaded to your serial numbered modem.

Thanks for the reply CM. I really had a time with websetup all day yesterday. I finally reinstalled Windows and went ahead with 98 SE this time instead of installing XP. I was on the phone with tech support for about an hour and it was going no where. Even after installing 98SE I still couldn't get websetup to complete. Finally after hours of trying today, it worked. Needless to say, I am scared to death to try and install XP only to go through all that again. I would like to thank PetDude and Greg for all there help on this. I have learned a whole lot in this forum in a little bit of time.

Thanks again,

Mike:):):)
